NEPRA approves Rs 5.00 per unit reduction in the price of electricity.

Big relief of Rs 106 billion for the WAPDA consumers. Electricity consumers will be provided relief by Rs 5.00 per unit reduction in electricity prices from March to June.

Islamabad: NEPRA has formally approved the implementation of the decision taken by Prime Minister Imran Khan to reduce the price of electricity.
Following the formal approval of NEPRA, the federal government will now issue a notification to reduce the price of electricity, under which consumers will get relief of Rs 106 billion. 

It may be recalled that a week ago, Federal Minister for Energy Hamad Azhar had said in a statement that electricity consumers would start getting relief of Rs 5 per unit in March bills.
Hamad Azhar further said that instructions have been issued to the electricity distribution companies in this regard. This relief will be given under the package announced by the Prime Minister.

Federal Minister said that domestic and commercial consumers across the country would benefit from this package. Earlier, the government had decided to make the subsidy package of Rs 5 per unit more efficient.

It may be recalled that on February 28, 2022, Prime Minister Imran Khan had announced the good news of making petrol, diesel and electricity cheaper. He had said in his address to the nation live on state TV channel PTV and Radio Pakistan that instead of increasing the government is reducing the price of petrol and diesel by Rs 10 per litre, while also reducing the price of electricity by Rs 5 per unit.

Imran Khan announced his government do not increase the price of oil and electricity till the next budget.
