Legendary Urdu comedian Moin Akhter (معین اختر) was born on 24 December 1950 in Karachi, Pakistan.

Moin Akhter started his acting career as a child actor at the age of 13. He played the character of Shylock in Shakespeare’s “The Merchant of Venice” in a theatre drama.

Moin Akhter made his television debut on 6 September 1966, in a variety show on Pakistan Television (PTV) to celebrate the first Defence Day of Pakistan.

Moin Akhter has performed several roles with a large number of PTV artists in television plays. But his team with Anwar Maqsood and Bushra Ansari was the most popular.

Moin Akhtar’s Death

The legendary comedian and actor Moin Akhtar, died on Friday 22 April 2011 around 4:30 pm in Karachi after suffering a heart attack. He left his wife, three daughters and two sons.
He was laid to rest in the Model Colony graveyard in Malir on Saturday 23 April 2011. Namazae janaza (funeral) was held at Toheed Masjid. Namazae janaza was led by Junaid Jamshed, the former lead vocalist of the pop music band “Vital Signs”. Despite hot weather having high temperatures, a large number of people, including his friends, relatives, colleagues and a large number of people attended the funeral.

Some of the leading showbiz artists who attended his funeral include actors Nadeem, Javed Shaikh, Behroz Sabzwari and writer Anwar Maqsood.
Among the top politicians, there were Sindh Assembly Speaker Nisar Khuhro and former Nazim of Karachi Mustafa Kamal. Squash’s legend Jehangir Khan also attended the funeral.
